Our group of PADI Scuba Instructors are ready and excited to motivate and teach you to dive responsibly and safely while enjoying what the underwater world has to offer!

How long does it take?

It takes 2 full weekends, so you have to really want to do it!  Don’t worry, it’s totally worth it!

The first weekend, we talk about your gear, learn about the rules and theory on scuba diving to make sure that you are very knowledgeable about safety and proper procedures. We teach you underwater skills that we practice in the pool to perfection.  Your first weekend will kind of look like this: Friday night, 7 – 10pm paperwork and gear orientation.  Saturday 9am to 1 pm classroom then 3pm to 7pm pool and  Sunday – 9am to 1pm classroom then 3pm to 7pm pool.

On the second weekend the real fun begins.  We go to Monterey! We have 2 days to do 4 dives (2 dives a day).  During these dives, is when you get the chance to show your instructor that you have perfected the skills you were taught in the pool and that you have earned your Open Water Certification!

Is it easy to learn?

With good attitude and motivation to learn, YES!  Keep in mind, safety is our number one concern, so there are some skills that are very important and must be done to perfection as well as quizzes and a final exam to be passed.  However, we are sure you will have an excellent time learning with a great instructor who will be sure to guide you and focus on YOU the whole entire time.  Our goal is for you to become a self sufficient, safe and responsible certified diver while having an awesome time learning.

How much does it cost?

It is all a bit different, but expect to spend about $350.  The type of gear you are required to purchase and what location we choose to do your certification will vary the cost a bit.

Basic Breakdown:

Books and Student Kit – $80.00

Gear Rental Fee for 2 weekends – $75.00

2 weekends of Dive Training and Certification Card – $175.00

So far, for the education portion and rental: $330

Now you have to buy your mask, fins & snorkel.  Some locations, you will also need to purchase a hood, mask booties and gloves.  These are your personal gear that you must have, since correct fit and specific needs must be met per diver.  These can cost as little as $150 for the set or a lot more depending on your personal preferences and fit.

Finally, there is Monterey! The fun part! You will need at least an overnight stay and motels tend to vary from $60 and up.  Make it a family outing! It is always great to visit the Monterey Aquarium after our first day of diving as well as the shops on Cannery Row.

Remember, what you are spending now will get you some of the best, safest and lifelong certification for diving that you can take around with you for the rest of your life!
